How to revive your battery in 6 steps with Epsom salt

If your car battery has failed, you do not have to replace it immediately with a new lead-acid battery. Good news, right? A new lead-acid battery is not cheap in itself and if you also have to put it in your car, you will soon lose a few hundred euros. Curious about how you can get your lead acid battery up and running in a very simple way? Then read on.

    What is Epsom salt?

Epsom salt is the more common name for the chemical magnesium sulfate. This can be used for all kinds of applications. This versatile product is used in medicine, the food industry and in chemical applications.

In its anhydrous form, magnesium sulfate looks like a white powder and it is in this form that the product is used to bring your lead-acid battery back to life. Difficult? Not at all! Need special equipment? Also not!

The only thing you need to get your lead acid battery working again is distilled water, Epsom salt, baking soda and a pair of rubber gloves and possibly an apron to protect your hands and clothing from the sulfuric acid in the battery.

Practically getting started with Epsom salt

Step 1: Thoroughly clean your battery. Remove all dirt and dirt that has formed on your battery over time. This avoids a short circuit caused by conduction while you work on the battery.

Step 2: If your battery is clean, open the cells of the battery. For this do not forget to put on the rubber gloves. The sulfuric acid contained in the liquid of the battery is, after all, a very corrosive substance. So be very careful here. If you can reach the cells well, pour out the liquid in which the lead plates of the battery are located in a specially provided reservoir.

Step 3: Take approximately 4 liters of distilled water and add approximately 280 grams of baking soda. Do not immediately pour this baking soda in the water, but take it easy while stirring the mixture gently. This way the baking soda can dissolve neatly in the water.

Step 4: Now pour this solution into the cells of the battery. When the cells are full, close the battery again and shake it back and forth a few times so that the fluid can spread easily and the cells are properly cleaned. After this you can open the covers of the cells and pour the liquid out of the cells.

Step 5: Heat 4 liters of distilled water and add half a kilo of Epsom salt. Fill the cells to the brim with this solution and let it work well.

Step 6: The battery is now ready to be charged for the first time. During this initial charge you must not close the cells of the battery so that the pressure that forms during the charge can escape. If you have fully charged the battery for the first time, measure the voltage with a multimeter. If the capacity of the battery is optimal, then your mission is successful. If the voltage is not quite right, charge the battery again for 24 hours. Keep in mind that hydrogen gas can form during this entire process and that this gas can escape from the battery. That is why it is important to perform this entire procedure in a well-ventilated area.

TIP: Save hundreds of euros in costs for batteries

The Battery Overhaul Program is an  easy-to-follow step-by-step system that anyone can use  to overhaul all kinds of old or empty batteries with just simple stuff that you probably already have at home.

If your battery fails or if it no longer works properly, you can use the  battery reconditioning program to  learn how to get it fully working again. Overhauling batteries  is not at all as difficult as it would seem and you can save a lot of money with it.
